They also reported that Rome and Greece were very developed society and they included swimming in their curriculum of elementary schools. They did not wear swimming costumes for bathing. The Roman civilization had also built public swimming pools. The lord of Roma named as Gaius Maecenas ordered to make swimming pool of hot water.

Plato who was a great philosopher of his age was declared that for the proper education one should learn swimming. Phoenicians, Assyrians and Babylonian civilizations also have evidence for the swimming. It is thought that there were swimming competitions held in Japan for about 2000 years before.
